Entertainment
The casino owners are the creators of a unique concept of a complete vacation where all entertainment is concentrated in one place. Casino Barriere de Montreux is known primarily as the venue for the Jazz Festival. Every year in early July the institution and the whole city for 16 days becomes a platform for performances of both famous and novice musicians. Such famous performers as Ella Fitzgerald, Sting, David Sanborn, Eric Clapton, Dizzy Gillespie, B.B. King, Radiohead, Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas and many others have sung here.
Montreux is closely tied to the history of Queen, as the casino was home to the band's recording studio, Mountain Studios, from 1979 to 1993. The city has a monument to frontman Freddie Mercury, and the casino is home to the band's museum (free admission).
Travelers from Russia try to visit the monument to the famous writer Vladimir Nabokov, who lived and died in Montreux.
The city is called the Swiss Riviera and is picturesquely set on the shores of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. The city's promenade is a special promenade with cafes, open-air art exhibitions, a botanical garden and a sea of flowers.
To get a closer look at Switzerland's natural beauty, you can take a train ride on the Golden Pass Line, a special rail route that offers panoramic views of the mountain scenery from the modern carriages. Another entertaining railroad journey takes you to the Rocher de Neu mountain - the train rides up to the top on an ancient cog bridge. Children and adults alike will love a ride on the Swiss Chocolate Train: the train travels for 9 hours through some of the country's most scenic areas straight to the Caller chocolate factory.
