Fribourg is a reference medieval town, in its old part many buildings, monuments and architectural details have fully preserved their authenticity. For travelers, the city has developed interesting routes for different ways of travel: on foot, by car, by bus, by bicycle, by a special small train. Tourists can visit the Cathedral of St. Nicholas and listen to a concert on the ancient organ, which is held in July and August on Wednesdays, climb to the platform of the Gothic tower and from a height of 74 meters to admire the cityscape.
The medieval fortifications are of great interest to visitors. The ensemble of defensive structures includes towers, gates and preserved parts of ramparts.
A large number of fountains, both modern and ancient, but restored and working properly to the delight of the public, stand out among the local attractions. Monuments, bas-reliefs, open-air installations - all this splendor of Fribourg is available to everyone. The sculpture of the Weeping Lady on the Rue de Romont is so realistic that many people mistake it for a living woman and try to console her.

The small train tours are conducted on a hop-on/hop-off formula, meaning the tourist can board and disembark anywhere along the route. An old-fashioned steam train and two cars run through the streets from April through October.
One of the city's curiosities is the funicular, which since 1899 has linked the lower part of Basse-Ville with the city center. It is the only one in Europe that runs on sewage as a counterweight.
Travelers appreciate hiking both in the city and its picturesque surroundings, along the Sarin, Glan, and Gérin rivers, to Lake Perol, along the Gotteron Valley, over bridges and a dam, and surrounded by alpine forests.
