In early 2004, a U-shaped site of about 35,000 square meters was acquired. The project was developed by David Friedman, Jan Eichner and SFM Capital Management, an investment firm. The purchased area was originally used as a parking lot for the Jockey Club. It was intended to build a resort with high towers and a casino. The future name of the Cosmopolitan atrium was announced in 2004.

The architect for the project was Arquitectonica, the design was done by Dougall Design, and the design of the towers was thought up by The Friedmutter Group. Construction of the complex began in October 2005. The cost of construction amounted to nearly $4 billion. The Cosmopolitan opened on Dec. 15, 2010

In 2014, the atrium was sold to the Blackstone Group. A year after that, the betting shop, which included a lounge area, a bar and offered a variety of musical performances, was closed. In 2017, the resort's high-rise towers and casino underwent a major renovation. Upgrades included guest rooms and suites, check-in areas, retail stores, and a triangular LED sign was installed on Boulevard Tower. It also added iPads for restaurant reservations, order of service, and 65-inch Samsung TVs in the rooms.

The Atrium has done away with charging guests for parking and became the second such resort after Wynn.

In January 2019, a man won the jackpot in the Sienfield machine and took home $617,756.

Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas opened in 2010, it is one of the newer resorts on the Strip. The casino covers an area of 10,000 square meters. In this area, players can find classic and popular games, for example, slot machines, video poker, table variations.

The second level of Boulevard Tower is home to the Marquee Lounge, where atrium guests can relax in an exclusive setting and enjoy signature dishes.

Live performances are held at Rose. Rabbit. Lie. Cocktails are also served at this interestingly designed venue.

Take an adult journey, specifically into a new dimension of entertainment, with the Opium Show. The unique performance of masculine gymnasts and athletes and charming flexible girls is decorated in a space-galactic theme.

An entertainment program and a wide selection of whiskeys are available at The Barbershop.

The CliQue Lounge is conceptual and avant-garde.

Besides the many machines, the gambling area offers classic table games such as blackjack, roulette, craps and baccarat, fortune pai gow and three-card poker, Ultimate Texas Hold'Em, etc.
