Gambling house operator Station Casinos and Howard Hughes Corporation have purchased a 30-hectare site in Summerlin. In 2003, they announced the construction of the most expensive and largest resort to rival the Suncoast and Rampart casinos.

Atrium construction began in 2004 and was completed in 2006. Local residents were unhappy and wrote complaints and held rallies because they didn't like the plans to build the resort. They included two 23-story towers and homes that would block views of Red Rock Canyon. Nevertheless, the project was approved. The estimated construction and renovation cost $925 million.

The resort was built with two parking garages and parking lots and six guest entrances. The hotel initially opened with 415 rooms, and by the end of 2006, the rest of the property and additions were to be added to that number.

Red Rock was the second gambling property to open in Summerlin. The gambling area was 8,100 square feet and included a poker room, 62 tables and 3,200 machines, a bingo and betting room with 213 seats and a VIP lounge. The atrium had meeting rooms, a spa, swimming pool, restaurants and clubs, bars and a 16-screen movie theater.

Red Rock was the only casino in Nevada to offer "Bonus Boxes" - containers attached to machines that gave out prizes to players.

In 2010, B. Sandoval won the Nevada gubernatorial election and celebrated his victory at the Red Rock Resort.

Sunny entertainment is available at Sandbar Pool. The pool offers private changing cabanas, cushioned couches and loungers, cocktails, and blackjack.

A variety of stores, including souvenir stores, are located on site. Guests can book individual excursions, such as hiking to hidden gem waterfalls, mountain biking, visiting Red Rock Canyon, etc.

Minutes from the complex are downtown Summerlin, the city's National Arena, an entertainment center, the Nevada Ballet Theater, a water park, Preserve Springs, and a wetlands park.

The Kids Quest children's playground is geared toward children ages 1.5 months to 12 years.

The gambling area has a spacious 20-table poker room open 24 hours a day. It is smoke-free. Daily tournaments start at 12:05pm. Standard games are limit and no-limit hold'em, with others available upon request.
