The hotel and casino is located in the center of Macau's commercial and entertainment district, where visitors can explore many attractions. Macau legalized gambling in 1847. The business took off in 1962, but when the peninsula became part of the People's Republic of China, everything changed. Gambling was banned in that country, but since 2002 it has been legalized in Macau.

The main architect of the 39-story hotel was Rocco Yim from Hong Kong. Construction of the building began in 2005 and was completed in 2006. It sits on Avenida da Amizade, diverting traffic and creating a private drop-off zone for arriving visitors.
