Career

Dale A. Miller is the head of the Elk Valley Rancheria Tribe of California and has served in his role for more than 20 years. In addition, he is also:

  • a member of the Bureau of Indian Affairs Trust Reward Consortium;
  • has served as chairman of the Trust Reward Consortium for 10 years;
  • has served on the Executive Board of the California Indian Gaming Association;
  • is a member of the North Coast Tribal Chairmen's Association;
  • is vice chairman of the Border Coast Regional Airport Association.

Gr. Miller is also a member of the following associations:

  1. Action Del Norte,
  2. Physician's Retention Group,
  3. National Congress of American Indians,
  4. National Indian Gaming Association.

He has been chairman of the Compact Tribes Steering Committee since 1999. Prior to serving as Chairman, Mr. Miller also served as Gaming Commissioner for Elk Valley Rancheria, California.

The Elk Valley Resort Hotel and Casino features slot machines, poker and bingo, as well as entertainment programs and a casual atmosphere. The casino opened in 1995 and is located in Crescent City, California.

While serving as Chairman of the Elk Valley Rancheria, Mr. Miller was involved in and largely shares in the success of transferring land received by the tribe into trust status for the purpose of building a new casino resort. And it was a very challenging undertaking - the process of transferring the land on which the new casino will be located took eight years.

He is currently working with his tribal council and staff to begin construction of the new facility, which will overlook the Pacific Ocean and be located in the Redwoods on beautiful Highway 101.

Mr. Miller is working diligently to establish positive relationships with local, state and national governments to make the new casino resort a reality.

Personal life

Dale Miller has two grown children, a son and a daughter, and has been married to his lovely wife Paula for over 40 years.

Interesting facts

Dale Miller served in the Navy and was wounded twice in Vietnam.

Legacy

For his leadership abilities, Dale A. Miller was awarded the Native American Financial Officers Association (NAFOA) Tribal Leader of the Year Award on February 10, 2009.
